Blast from the Past

Nate and I went to Applebee's last night. I haven't been there probably since college. Believe it or not, we have found other places to eat in this town. Amazing, I know. When Boyz II Men's Motown Philly flooded into our booth, I had some serious flashbacks to high school...Brinson's purple outfit straight off the rack of Chess King...WOW. Then we went to Lowe's and Amy Grant's Baby Baby was booming in there. What's up with the music in this town? Anything from this millenium?

Can we live without the bah-boo?

Nate and Emily custom fit the blinds in Emmy's bedroom last night. She was little miss plumber pants. Poor thing doesn't have anything on her backside to hold her pants up. Everytime she bent down to pick up a section of the blinds, her pants would fall down. I had to be creative in making a belt for her. I had a piece of fabric leftover from a project, so I cut a strip of it and looped it through her pants for most of the day. She wasn't too fond of it, but it sure kept me from having to yank her pants up all day.

Tonight we caulked all of our crown and baseboard work from the weekend. It is so rewarding to do projects like this! If you're ever in good ole Marion, drop in to see our little home. It's a great place to be!

We are trying to take Emily's Bah-boo (pacifier) out of her life. We were never going to give her one in the first place, but one of the nurses at the hospital in Lone Tree, CO thought she needed it. When they brought her into us in post-partum there it was protruding out of her mouth. She's been attached to it ever since. Today she was in the laundry room and there is a register on the floor that doesn't have a cover on it from the flooring project we did in there. Anyway, she pulled her bah-boo out of her mouth and it bounced right down the vent shaft. Gone. I could hear it bouncing down under the house. Of course we have others, but what a great opportunity to try and rid her of this habit. My only problem is, she is the master at hiding them in strategic places around the house. I've been on the prowl all night trying to find the ones that are unaccounted for. Wish me luck!

We spent our entire weekend working on baseboards and crown molding in our living room, kitchen, and hallway. My husband is a stud...even beside the fact that whenever he put the stud finder on his chest it beeped. He was the mastermind behind this whole project and it looks stellar.

All Things New

Our Jeep was released from captivity today. It has been in the shop having it's "rear end" worked on. Nate got update calls from the receptionist at the dealership saying "They just finished inspecting your rear end" or "They think they'll be finished with your rear end tomorrow." We've had a lot of fun with that. It's nice to have our car back, though. They loaned us a Neon and it's just not the same as the Jeep. A huge praise, warranty covered all of the work. We were a little worried when we took it in.

On a different note, our computer breathed it's last a few days ago. It's amazing how much I've come to rely on a computer for so many things. Thanks to Dell, we'll be hooked up next week.

Louie Giglio wrote a chapter in Matt Redman's book Inside Out Worship about the link between worship and the Word. It was a short chapter, but challenging. Getting into the Word has always been a struggle for me. He challenged a group of people to memorize an entire book of the Bible. I've heard of people doing that, but have never tried. What would my worship look like if my mind was consumed with scripture? That's the question I've been asking myself. So much talk about worship these days. I'm digging deeper.

We've had a pretty busy weekend. We drove to Napoleon, OH on Saturday for Mike Prasuhn's wedding. Congratulations you two! We forgot to take our camera with us, so we don't have anything to show for it. The wedding was beautiful, though.

Tonight, after church, Emily had a self-given lesson in hairstyling. Her product of choice...ketchup. She wasn't sure if she liked it or not. I think the pictures speak for themselves. She'll give Derek Zoolander a run for his money! Blue steel...Magnum...Le Tigra? Emily's secret weapon...KETCHUP!

 

 

 

Nate and Emily had a giggle party last night. It's their version of hide and seek where Nate throws the kitchen towel over Emily's head and says "Where's Emily?" Then he pulls the towel off and goes "AAAHHHHH!" and Emily's face is what you see in the pictures here. It's hilarious to watch.

 

Way in the distance between the Recreation Center and the PAC is one of the new lodges. There are three of them back there across the drive from the President's Mansion.

We have a reader among us. Among her other favorite things...singing, dancing, coloring, sorting crayons,... this little one loves to read. We put up her bookshelf a couple of days ago. It was a little overwhelming for her to choose which one to pull down first, but I guess if Mommy and Daddy read fast enough you can pull a bunch of them down. We haven't quite figured out how to put them back up on the bookshelf, but we will soon enough!

Uncle Steve and Aunt Stinky...i.e. Stephanie 

We had some visitors yesterday on their way back to Ohio. Steve and Stephanie Lamb came by to see their niece...and us...but always Emily first. It seems to be how it is once you have children. People walk through the door and reach for the baby. Who cares about those other people anyways!

Marty, Jaclyn, and Raya Reiswig

"Raya" as I'm told, is Greek which means friend.
She was born August 13, 2005 at 1:17am to parents Marty and Jaclyn Reiswig.
She weighed in at 8 lb. 3 oz. and was 20 1/2 inches long. When I have a link to their website with pictures, I'll let you know. Congratulations Reiswigs!!

Coming soon...Starbucks Coffee!! 

Marion is about to put itself on the map! For all of you who have lived here for even a short part of your life, you'll appreciate this. Starbucks coffee is coming!! We drove over last night to get a picture of the sign on the building that said "Coming soon...Starbucks", but the sign was down. So, all you get is a picture of the building. Panera Bread is slated to be with it, and there are more stores to open. If Qdoba would move in...sheesh, I don't what I'd do. So, here it is folks. History in the making. Yippee!!

Emily's first guitar...it's a Martin. My first guitar was a Takamine, so she's already one up on me. Her next one...a baby Taylor of course! (Thanks for the guitar Chris!) 

Isn't hardwood great! 

I have never been so thankful for hardwood floors as I was last night. We just moved into this house two weeks ago. We've been working on it for the better part of a month. There was flea infested carpet that screamed out from the 60's. (bright green, blue, and Nate's fave orange) We pulled up the carpet to find beautiful hardwood throughout the entire house. Our next step was to rent a sander and proclaim our insanity for embarking on this project alone. A week later we were able to put the final coat of finish on and let it cure to perfection. Fast forward to yesterday. Emily has been so sick. I was walking her around the living room, her head on my shoulder, when she barfed (that is such a cool word) all over me and the floor. My first thought after making sure she was okay was...I am so glad we don't have carpet! So, here is my tribute to our new hardwood floor. Isn't she a bute?

If you wonder why there's a picture of all of us from last Christmas, well here you go. We were in a store today and they were putting up Christmas decorations. I must admit that I am one to sneak up decor while Nate is at work throughout the month of November, but that's November and this is August! Some say it's marketing, some say it's craziness...I say it's both!

Today our thoughts are with the Claussen family in the loss of their son, my cousin, Jake. He was with us for only 8 years, but his memory will remain forever. To Steve, Amanda, Julia, and Anna we love you and are praying for you all!

This is our blog. A place where you can keep up with the lambs. As I write, Nate is on his way to Chicago with the entire Admissions staff from IWU. Something about a retreat. I think Gino's pizza, Starbucks, Famous Dave's, IKEA, etc. are all on the schedule. Retreat away fellas! Emily is as snotty as ever. Good ole Fairmount family camp gave her a cold. She's in very good spirits, though. She still sings and drums on everything in sight. The oven just beeped that our cinnamon rolls are ready. Breakfast is served. Enjoy your surfing on our blog. As we figure this thing out, we'll have more fun things for you to look at.

This one is for Grandma. Emily was not feeling very well a few evenings ago. Twirling her hair and holding her bitty baby seemed to make life much more bearable. 

This is the butterfly that made part of the trip from Dayton to Marion. Not sure when it joined in, but I'm pretty sure it didn't remember much. 

Uncle Matt spent the night on Saturday and hung out with us on Sunday. I think Emily likes him.
